What Between Stations means to me
A Poet Mentee's View

During the mentoring project I hope to develop my performance skills to a stage where I can perform longer pieces confidently, using voice, gesture and dramatic technique. I have been mentored successfully by Andy before as a writer with the help of a Northern Cultural Partnerships grant and now I hope to learn more about performance of text with multimedia and music from him and am very pleased that we are able to work together again on this project. I hope the experience of shadowing the “Between Stations” spoken word show and performing in live support slots will allow me to visualise and develop a show for my debut collection “Alice in Winterland” which will be published in 2017 by Smokestack books. The experience of collaborating with musicians and filmmakers will be particularly valuable as I hope to use this experience when developing my own show about my own time in a “Between Stations” state of mind in Russia. Perhaps most significantly the project will introduce me to Finnish poetry culture, allow me to gain valuable insight into different writing and performance styles and establish contacts internationally.
